Find Your Kindred Spirits

When a Stargazer meets a Navigator, transformation becomes more than a destination, it becomes a shared journey.

In a world where collaboration is often talked about as a strategic necessity, the most successful partnerships are rarely built on strategy alone. They are built on something deeper: shared values; mutual respect; a common purpose. They are built by kindred spirits.

That phrase feels particularly fitting when I reflect on my partnership with Kath Smythe.

On paper, we bring different strengths. Kath describes herself as the "Stargazer" and I as the "Navigator". Kath helps organisations imagine what is possible, exploring workforce insight, behavioural understanding and the human dynamics that shape change. I bring the practical experience, transformation leadership and operational focus needed to turn ambition into action. Together, we combine vision with delivery, reflection with action and challenge with support.

But what makes this partnership work is not simply the combination of complementary skills. It is the fact that we see the world in remarkably similar ways.

Grounded in People

We both believe that organisations achieve their greatest success when they place people at the heart of change. Too often, transformation is approached as a process to be managed rather than a human experience to be navigated. Strategies are developed, structures are redesigned and targets are set. Yet the voices of the people expected to deliver the change can sometimes become lost along the way.

Our shared belief is simple: frontline staff often hold the answers organisations are searching for. When organisations create the conditions for people to contribute, challenge, learn and grow, change becomes something people own rather than something that happens to them.

Different Perspectives, Shared Purpose

Every strong partnership needs healthy difference.

Kath brings curiosity, systems thinking and an ability to help leaders step back from immediate pressures to explore new possibilities. I bring extensive experience in organisational transformation, local government and adult social care, helping leaders navigate complexity while maintaining focus on practical outcomes.

We are often looking at the same challenge through different lenses, which creates richer conversations and better solutions.

One of us may ask, "What could be possible?"

The other asks, "How do we make that happen?"

Neither question is enough on its own. Together, they become powerful.

Trust, Challenge and Candour

The strongest partnerships are not built on agreement, they are built on trust.

Being kindred spirits does not mean always sharing the same opinion. It means creating a space where honest conversations can happen without ego getting in the way. It means being able to challenge each other thoughtfully while remaining united in purpose.

That balance of challenge and support is something we strive to bring to every organisation we work with. We believe that meaningful change requires both courageous conversations and strong relationships.

Creating Change That Lasts

Sustainable transformation happens when organisations align leadership, culture, workforce and purpose.

Our partnership is built around helping organisations do exactly that. Whether supporting leaders through complexity, developing resilient workforces or guiding large-scale transformation programmes, our focus remains constant: helping people believe in, contribute to and sustain change.

Because lasting impact is never created by frameworks alone.

It is created by people.

The Power of Kindred Spirits

In every organisation, community and team, there is value in finding your kindred spirits. The people who challenge your thinking while sharing your values. The people who complement your strengths and compensate for your blind spots. The people who help translate possibility into progress.

Our partnership works because it is rooted in a shared commitment to humanity, authenticity and meaningful change.

We may be the Stargazer and the Navigator.

But ultimately, we are two people walking alongside organisations with a common purpose: helping people, cultures and systems thrive.

And that is what being kindred spirits is all about.
